The Byzantine Empire
- 1. You should come to New Rome because we are on a peninsula and it protects the city from invaders and attacks. They had chains in the water that would destroy ships if they tried to come in without permission. It was hard for invaders to take over because they had walls that were really tall and really thick. Constantinople is safe because it is a peninsula and has good military protection. Constantinople is also prospering because of excessive food and water. We also have a good,strong, and fair government. Our official language is Greek. We have the religion Christianity that you should change to and worship. Christianity is a peaceful and powerful religion.
2. Justinian's relationship with Theodora will improve life in New Rome because he was highly influenced by her and she could be compared to today's first ladies. He highly taxed people to fund his army that attacked before they were attacked. Emperors were head of the church and state. Justinian ruled by divine right, the idea that he was chosen to rule by god. He built bridges, libraries, hospitals, roads, and parks. Justinian's Code Of Law was that Justinian believed that the 400 years worth of Roman laws were to elaborate and irrelevant. He still wanted to keep the main idea of Romans Laws so he added new laws and removed ones that weren't needed. He considered them all to be fair.
3. One big form of entertainment was the hippodrome. It was a huge stadium in the center of the city. Chariot races were held inside the stadium. It was called the circus in Rome. It was not as gruesome and deadly as gladiator, but people often died in races. They also had horse racing, foot races, and wrestling. They also had wild animals like lions fight.

4. The official religion in the Byzantine Empire is Christianity. The other religions are not widely accepted. Most people moved to Christianity. Apostles told everyone the message about Jesus and Christianity. Christianity was the center of daily life. Hagia Sophia means holy wisdom. Justinian rebuilt on a grand scale. In addition to his buildings, he built 25 new cathedrals. The most magnificent cathedral was the Hagia Sophia.

5. The fall of the "New Rome" or the Byzantine Empire was by the Ottomans. It was known as the Ottoman Wars. They fell in 1453 which was a huge thing because they had survived and contained a lot of territory for over 1000 years. The start of the decline and fall of the Byzantine Empire was in 1071 when they had the Battle Of Manzikert. The political and economy of the empire was getting weak as well.
